Life is temporal.
Death is the doorway to eternity.
As a Christian I have this blessed hope that when I die I will be with Jesus but while I have breath I will serve the Lord.
This verse is meaningful because I have seen death in my doorstep.
When my father died in my house, I saw the breath of his spirit leaving his body through his mouth. At that moment I could see the struggle he had to retain his breath. It was like he was in pain. It was like something pulled from his body making its exit through his mouth.
Man is a spiritual being, I have no doubt about it. I cannot live my life gratifying the flesh because when I make the journey to life eternal this flesh must be left behind.
4 important things:
1. Life is temporary and does not last forever. I must fulfill my dreams and do God's will while I can.
2. Life ends when our breath leaves our body. In death there is nothing else that can be done by us. Everything grinds to a halt.
3. Our body goes back to the earth where it belongs. Where does our spirit goes? To God or to somewhere else?
4. When we die, all our thoughts will end. There will be no more time to see the 7 wonders of the world, to go to India for missions, to give our money to the poor, to visit a long-missed family, to do some good or charitable deeds. No more thinking, no more planning. Just ceasing from everything. Thus it is important to keep ourselves busy until the time comes for our breath to end.
Some key words:
1. "Spirit" here refers to the breath of a man
2. "Earth" literally means the ground or the soil
3. "Plans" refers to the thoughts of man
