The 5 principles of giving are:
1. Giving began with God
God gave His Son to us unconditionally because of His love for us. Giving is in the DNA of God the Father and is the very essence of His being.
2. Giving breaks the 'prison of financial lack'
Dr Oswald Smith once told a story of a young man who never had enough. He challenged the young man to give a tenth of his earnings to the Lord. The young man did as he was told. In due time, he not only overcame his financial insufficiency, he also saw increase in his finances.
3. Giving is a law of God
Giving is not an option. It is not "If you give.." It is "When you give...." Giving, fasting and praying are the 3 non-negotiable duties of the believer as prescribed in the New Testament.
4. Giving is the essence of our being. We were created to give to others in order to lead a fulfilled life.
A young girl was in need of a blood transfusion. However due to her rare blood condition only her brother could provide the blood type. The doctor sat down with him and asked his permission to draw his blood to help his sister. Nervous and frightened but with a heart to help his sister, he said Yes. After the operation the doctor came to the young man and told him that it was a success. The young man asked him in a small voice "So how long before I die?"
Thinking that donating blood to his sister could cost him his life the young man still willingly went through the process to help his sister!
5. We give because we receive
There is a difference between giving because we receive and receiving because we give.
The difference is that when we give because we receive, giving becomes conditional upon our receiving of monies etc. However when we receive because we give, our giving is unconditional i.e at the moment of our giving we are not expecting anything in return. However because it is a law of God that we will surely receive when we give, our giving will always lead to unprecedented financial returns.
Giving will always lead to multiplication. Multiplication is the mathematics of heaven. 1 can chase a thousand. 2 can chase ten thousand. 5 loaves and 2 fishes fed thousands. Adam and Eve multiplied to the whole of mankind. Abraham became the father of a great nation (millions of Jews around the world).
